The Age Criteria Limbo: A Story of Aspirations and Uncertainty
As the exam week draws near, a group of dedicated JKAS aspirants find themselves in a state of limbo, their future hanging in the balance due to an unresolved age relaxation issue. This story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the complexities of bureaucratic processes.
But here's where it gets controversial... despite repeated verbal promises from top officials, including the Chief Minister himself, the aspirants are still waiting for a formal, written order on age relaxation. It's a situation that has left them frustrated and anxious, especially as the clock ticks closer to their upcoming examination.
Speaking to Kashmir News Service, these determined individuals shared their journey, which began in June when the recruitment process for the 2025 cycle commenced. They revealed how they had traveled back and forth between Srinagar and Jammu, meeting with officials and receiving assurances that the age criteria would be adjusted for the upcoming JKAS examination.
"We were told time and again that it would be resolved," one aspirant shared. "In June, we were given hope in Srinagar, and later, during our visits to Jammu, senior officers reiterated that it would happen soon."
The last verbal assurance came on November 4, when a senior government official promised that the matter would be presented to the cabinet within days. However, as of today, the General Administration Department (GAD) has not issued any written order, leaving the aspirants in a state of uncertainty.
And this is the part most people miss... the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) even delayed issuing admit cards, waiting for a decision that never came. Finally, with no official direction, the Commission had no choice but to release the admit cards on Monday evening, just days before the preliminary examination scheduled for December 7.
Currently, the age limit stands at 32 for open category candidates and 37 for reserved categories. The aspirants are advocating for an increase in the upper age limit to 37 years for the open category and 40 years for reserved categories, similar to previous relaxations.
"We've been requesting this relaxation since the day the posts were announced," they explained. "We've traveled multiple times, hoping for a fair chance."
As the aspirants prepare for their examination, they are pinning their hopes on a favorable decision from the cabinet, which is scheduled to meet on this issue tomorrow at the Chief Minister's residence. Will their perseverance pay off? Only time will tell.
